About

Transcarta develops and implements creative payment strategies, products, services and operations process improvement projects that will generate revenue and manage costs for consumer financial services companies & retailers.

We work with financial institutions, payments industry service providers, retailers and research companies site and remotely to help them grow their business and gain competitive advantage. We focus on enhancing strategy, back office support, merchant acquiring, infrastructure and service quality for credit cards, debit cards, and other payment products.

We also provide freelance writing services for media, corporates and non-profits. From commentary on trending topics and weekly articles on personal finance to detailed research on financial services and insights into water management, we cover a wide range of topics. Clients include Today, GTNews, Challenge and The Asian Banker.

Management

Richard Hartung, Managing Director
Richard has more than 20 years of experience in the payments and consumer financial services industry, primarily in the Asia Pacific region. Following work in retail banking in California and a short stint in government, Richard was part of the team that started up retail banking for Citibank in Japan.

After moving to Singapore, Richard joined MasterCard and headed up Operations & Systems for the Asia Pacific region. He then moved to Keppel TatLee Bank, launched a new credit card program that became profitable in just over 1 year, and then managed the integration of Keppelcard into OCBC Bank as the Card Center Manager at OCBC.

Richard set up Transcarta in May 2002 and focuses on assisting financial services companies with strategy, payments training programs, operations process enhancement, merchant acquiring, market entry research and other business practices. He is also a freelance writer for Today, gtnews, Challenge, The Asian Banker and OOSKAnews. He is proficient in Japanese.

Richard has a BA from Pomona College and an MBA from Stanford University. He is active in community organizations, including on the boards of the Metropolitan YMCA and the Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore).

Community Support & Voluntering

Our managing director, Richard Hartung, has been active in the non-profit sector here for more than two decades.

He became a member of the Council of the Stanford Club of Singapore in the mid-1990s and served as president of the Stanford Club 2007-2010. In the 1990s he headed the Cultural Affairs Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham), then served on the AmCham Board of Governors from 2001 through 2006 and as co-chair of the SME Committee from 2013 to present. He joined the board of the American Association of Singapore in 2004 and served as treasurer for 4 years, then moved into roles as vice president and then as secretary before retiring from the board in 2011.

He was the founding president of the Jane Goodall Institute of Singapore (JGIS) in 2007, served in that role for two years and continues now as the treasurer JGIS. Richard helped to establish Bankers with Vision (BwV) in Singapore in 2009, to support VisionFund’s microfinance institutions in Asia, and served as a member of the Steering Committee for BwV. He served as treasurer of the American Club of Singapore, which has a budget of over S$30 million and an investment portfolio of over S$70 million, from 2010-2015 and has continued to serve on the board.

Richard joined the board of the Metropolitan YMCA in 2013 and is currently chair of the fund-raising committee. He also delivers bread to social welfare institutions as a volunteer with Food from the Heart, serves as secretary on the board of a condo association, and is a mentor for Protégé as well as the National University of Singapore Society.
